UN Correspondent Linda Fasulo To Speak at World Affairs Council
The World Affairs Council of Western North Carolina will host NBC News correspondent Linda Fasulo as guest speaker for the final meeting of its 2001-02 season at 7:30 p.m. May 13 at the Owen Conference Center on the UNCA campus. Fasulo, United Nations Correspondent for NBC News and MSNBC, will speak on “The United Nations and the United States, Post-September 11.” The lecture is jointly funded by the World Affairs Council, the Meyerson Fund for World Federalism, the Belk Distinguished Chair, the UNCA Humanities Program, and the United Nations Association of WNC.
Fasulo specializes in the UN and US foreign policy. She is Special UN Correspondent for “US News and World Report” and is also heard on National Public Radio (WCQS in Asheville). She covered the terror attack at the World Trade Center and is well-versed in such topics as the US-UN relationship, Iraq, Afghanistan, peacekeeping, and other “hotspot” topics including women’s issues, human rights, and the media’s role in the world today.
A graduate of Rutgers College, Fasulo has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Baruch College and has done graduate study at Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs. She serves on the board of the Overseas Press Club and the UN Correspondents Association and is an Honorary Fellow of the Foreign Policy Association in New York City. She is the author of “Representing America: Experiences of the US Diplomats at the UN.”
The World Affairs Council of WNC, an independent nonprofit organization, is a member of the World Affairs Councils of America. It was established in 1988 to promote world understanding and enhance the region’s awareness of the connections between local concerns and global issues. Admission to Ms. Fasulo’s lecture is $5.00.
